Top Destinations For Travelers and Their Dogs

If you love to travel, but loathe to kennel your canine companions while you’re away, you may wish to consider destinations where pets are equally welcome. A trip to the bookstore should land you a travel guide or two of hotels that make arrangements for pets, but if you’re more interested in a vacation where your dog can enjoy themselves as well, without waiting in the room all day, there are plenty of opportunities, and destinations.

Want to vacation with your four-footed friends? Get out your GPS and load up the pet ramp in the car or truck and hit the open road for these hot spots.

San Francisco: You won’t find a more pet friendly city in the US than in the Bay Area. Known for its steep hills and cable cars, it may surprise you to know dogs are allowed to ride, too. For morning runs on the California coast, there are several off-leash beaches and many green parks for play. You can also stroll through Fisherman’s Wharf and find a nice outdoor cafe that caters to pet on their menu.

Colorado Springs: According to Forbes Magazine, this high-altitude haven is home to the most pet-friendly hotel in the country, and a host of dog parks and veterinary services. If you enjoy hiking, make this a summer stop.

New York City: Pets in the city? On the surface, you might doubt that the Big Apple is prepared to accommodate canine tourists, but a closer look reveals there are opportunities for dogs to enjoy the good life here. New York Dog Tours is one company that offers guided excursions through various parts of the city, and of course there is Central Park and the pond at Prospect Park for swimming in the summer.

Portland, Oregon: Dogs may not like coffee, but in Portland if you crave a cup your friend can relax on the dog-friendly while you enjoy breakfast – dogs get a free biscuit! Afterward, take a trip to the Grotto Sanctuary, among other pet-friendly outdoor areas, for sightseeing and exercise.

From the east coast to the west, traveling with your pet doesn’t have to be complicated. If you know where to go, you and your dog can enjoy a relaxing, fun vacation.

  • I love to visit many places but I was not able to visit as much I used to because of my four legged friend. But once I traveled with him to Ireland and I found it a nice place to spend your holidays with the pet friend.
