Cat Peeing Everywhere? The Solution Is Easier Than You Might Think

If you’re trying to stop your cat peeing everywhere, this article will show you how to save yourself a lot of trouble and even a lot of money. I will introduce you to 3 major factors that can cause cats to abandon their litter box and how you can put a stop to it sometimes as fast as overnight.

Location, location, location. I’m not talking about where your cat has some real estate. I’m talking about where you’ve decided is the best place for your cat’s litter box. You have to consider things like foot traffic and general commotion around the area that your cat goes to pee.

Your cat doesn’t have the luxury of going into the bathroom and closing the door so it’s up to you to provide a place where he can have some privacy and not get bothered by the dog or your other cats. It’s also important to keep the litter box away from your cat’s food. You wouldn’t want to eat in the bathroom and neither would your cat.

While we’re on the subject of the litter box, another important factor is the kind of litter you are using. Some cats get quite picky about their substrate preference and will decide that they no longer like the feel of clumping litter. Try out different brands and try to avoid using scented litters.

The third major factor that you need to address to stop your cat peeing everywhere is stress. Your cat is much more susceptible to changes in their environment that you or I so you need to keep a close eye on her. Moving house or the introduction of new pets are 2 very common reasons why a cat will protest with their bladder.

Now that you understand the importance of litter box placement, substrate preference and stress avoidance, you can start to solve the issue of your cat’s inappropriate urination. My wife and I had to learn these lessons the hard way when our cat peed so much in one spot of our apartment that it leaked through and did several thousand dollars of damage to our neighbour’s ceiling.

We did a lot of reading about how to stop a cat urinating everywhere on the Internet and weren’t entirely satisfied with what we found.

We spent the next several months compiling all the most relevant information and also interviewing veterinarians in our area and around the world.

The results of our research can now be found at StopCatPeeing.com where we have many articles relating to inappropriate urination in cats.

A cat that pees outside the litter box is a frustrating problem and one that could prove fatal to your cat if you don’t know what to do. Do your homework and help your cat before it’s too late.

I had two 5 yr old cats when I moved into my new built house. They were fine for a while (the litter box was placed in the washer and dryer room and yes, their food was there too, but seperated by a large floor to ceiling cabinet. I also had their boxes under a table on a flat carpet pad for their paws and clumping litter to go when they got out. When I went on vacation a mo. later, a women they knew took care of them and one started peeing in my office room. I was devistated. Of course, then no matter what spray you buy (I spent a LOT), they keep going there, poop and pee on and off. The same happened to my outdoor screened in porch that I had indoor/outdoor carpet installed in. They went in the corner! I asked my vet and she said they don't like to walk on foil paper, but of course that looks awlful to have it around all the time. I also tried that plastic walkway you buy when people come thru a home when they don't want dirt on the carpet. It was cheap at the dollar store, I would then turn it upside down so that the poking spikes would be up...did that hurt if YOU steped on it! The vet then told me to literally put a litter box where they woudl go and that seemed to work, esp. out on the porch! I wish I thought of that before! (At least the porch one..the house really never got better, I just had to clean it now and then and they wouldn't go all the time. It was like they would when they were mad, or I was away!).
